Remembering 9/11

As I recall the events of the tragedy of 9/11 I, of course, grow sad. So many lives lost and all our lives were irrevocably changed. So many lost their sons, daughters, mothers, fathers, sisters, brothers, wives, and husbands.

Yet in the midst of all this tragedy the human spirit rises to show us the good. Humanity was at its best when we’d been shown the face of hatred and its evil. In a time of chaos and horror, many jumped in to save others and it cost them their own lives. The flight crew of United Flight 93 banded together to save others, sacrificing themselves.

Then there are the smaller, yet just as important, acts of kindness. People opened their homes to others who were now unable to return to their own homes. Neighbors helping neighbors. Strangers reaching out to strangers. The nation joining together to donate time, money, and whatever else we could. Stories of kindnesses from people who were abroad can be found.

Amongst tragedy the heart of humanity shined. This day will always be remembered with a heavy heart. But there is comfort in knowing that during such harsh times, kindness and love were also there.

A day like this should remind us to…

Find your joy and laissez les bons temps rouler!
